Got eggs?
![Bushel & a Peck](https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5587/14875313453_52332b47c7_z.jpg)
{We've got eggs.}
![Bushel & a Peck](https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3890/14668755628_3a5b64f7e8_z.jpg)
{We've got 19 eggs.}
![Bushel & a Peck](https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3924/14668817318_07bff4791f_z.jpg)
{But we've eaten 6. So, 25 total.}

{In just 3 weeks.}
![Bushel & a Peck](https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5558/14668855238_298136fb51_z.jpg)
{We only have 2 hens laying so far.}
![Bushel & a Peck](https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3906/14852402901_88e92ac5c6_z.jpg)
{Every day we collect 1-2 eggs.}

{A couple times we've gotten soft shell eggs.}
![Bushel & a Peck](https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5583/14668844349_a08a1abd26_z.jpg)
{But most eggs are top notch.}
![Bushel & a Peck](https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5595/14855419705_095376e060_z.jpg)
{We bring them inside, and pack them away.}
![Bushel & a Peck](https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3911/14668854187_faf3177447_z.jpg)
{We put them into pretty turquoise cartons.}
![Bushel & a Peck](https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3848/14852907584_a6bb65b97c_z.jpg)
{We need to start eating them.}
![Bushel & a Peck](https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5553/14875308033_020fa826ec_z.jpg)
{When we first got chickens,
everyone said they would buy eggs from us.}
everyone said they would buy eggs from us.}
{I thought, "We'll never have
enough eggs for all these people."}
enough eggs for all these people."}
{But now I'm thinking,
once all chickens are laying...
once all chickens are laying...
![Bushel & a Peck](https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5555/14668751668_9fb6e8e83e_z.jpg)
...we probably will have plenty.}
![Bushel & a Peck](https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5570/14852420311_8f7fa48680_z.jpg)
{And I don't want to charge.}
{The eggs are a small blessing to us...
![Bushel & a Peck](https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3900/14668949167_ea0b6932f1_z.jpg)
...and we want them to be
a small blessing to others as well.}
a small blessing to others as well.}
![Bushel & a Peck](https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5588/14832424676_db5918157c_z.jpg)
{That is all.}

When I was a kid, my sister and I got free chicks from the 4-H club and raised them. When they started laying eggs, we would sell them for $1 a dozen and that would be our pocket money (we never got an allowance).Gosh, that was over thirty years ago.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun childhood memories! I would have loved that. Do you keep chickens now?
DeletePeople in your neighborhood would LOVE to pay for those eggs I bet! (I would, but I'm a bit of a drive.) I love how that lovely teal goes so well with the brown eggs. You were meant to have chickens!
ReplyDeleteIt was hard to chose a color, but yes--the teal is perfect with the brown eggs! Next time you come down for a visit, I'll save a half dozen for you. (Or a dozen...if our other chickens would just start laying!)
DeleteWhat do you have to say for yourself?
