Shame on Ikea and staff for being neglectful of securing the cabinet, but double shame on them for not apologizing and checking up on your daughter and on your family. I must admit that deep into your post I started skimming it looking for a ray of hope. None really found. Sorry, but not even the insurance lady. You may just have to send in your medical bills and let this one go. You're great :-)

I've been surprised at how many people have read our story and replied that they will think twice about shopping at IKEA again. More than anything, my husband and I feel gratitude that Violet was not more seriously injured. That said, it worries me that IKEA has completely turned a blind eye on us and this situation, when they COULD be learning from this and using this experience to make their stores safer.

Thank you SO much for taking the time to read our story and leave a comment. It articulates exactly the point I was trying to make. I think most people out there are happy and relieved to see a sincere apology and are much more likely to forgive and forget. I've actually been saying how ironic it is, that IKEA's refusal to acknowledge us or take responsibility is exactly the thing that's making me want to fight back harder.

Again--thank you SO much. Your support means everything to me. It's been so wonderful to feel supported and validated by so many of my readers and friends. Truly, sincere thanks.

Heatherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13093962932172006220noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3726963612523301492.post-64472102248791359272014-02-17T11:26:17.714-08:002014-02-17T11:26:17.714-08:00Heather, I would be asking to see a copy of that &...Heather, I would be asking to see a copy of that "security tape" showing her pulling on the cabinet. No chance a toddler can pull a cabinet over. I feel like we all need to go over to that store right now, and tug on every single piece of furniture to make sure it's attached and let all of the staff know LOUDLY why we're doing it. If a hundred or so people converged on the store at the same time and starting yanking on cabinet after cabinet "making sure this won't fall on me" - maybe THAT would get their attention. I have never shopped there, and now I never will. But hopefully helpful nonetheless. Thank you for the reminder about the dangers of furniture. If nothing else, maybe this will help save another child somewhere. In that, I hope you will be able to find some measure of gratitude for this experience and that you will be able to find peace. Did you know that doctors who apologize usually don't get sued. (Or if they do, the settlement is much much lower?)
